Use acrylic yarn in the color of your choice and a size G crochet hook

Use a long sleeve shirt to measure the distance it is from the cuff of one sleeve to the cuff of the other sleeve on your baby’s clothes. This is going to be the distance for the cuff to cuff on your sweater.

Chain a length that is equal to this measurement. Chain 2, turn, and double crochet back to the other side. Work 12 double crochet rows. For the next row, double crochet the length of the sleeve, and the width of the body, but chain 2, and turn right as you reach the other sleeve.

Continue to work back to the beginning of the first sleeve. Chain 2, turn, and double crochet back across. You are now forming the back of the sweater. If you want to ensure you are making it the proper size, compare this to the shirt you used to measure. It should fit over it easily.

When you have finished the back of the sweater tie off and return to the top. Join with a slip stitch on the edge of the sleeve, and double crochet to the neck. Chain 2, turn, and crochet back down to the cuff. Chain 2, turn, and crochet back to the neck. Do this 2 more times.

When you reach the neck once more, continue on for 5 more stitches. Double crochet back to the end of the cuff. Repeat 9 more rows this way, to finish out the first sleeve. This is the sleeve on the left of the sweater.

This time, double crochet to the middle, but when you return to go back to the sleeve, stop at the same place you did for the back of the sweater. Chain 2, turn, and work your way back to the center. Finish out this side, tie off, then return to the top.

When you reach the neck once more, continue on until you are nearly to the other side of the shirt. Use the picture as a reference point. Double crochet back to the end of the cuff. Repeat 9 more rows this way, to finish out the second sleeve. This is the sleeve on the right of the sweater.

Now, double crochet to the end of the row, but when you return to go back to the sleeve, stop at the same place you did for the back of the sweater. Chain 2, turn, and work your way back to the end of the row. Finish out this side, and tie off.

Next take your yarn and your crochet hook, and single crochet a border all around the sweater, so there are no loose ends. Also do the cuffs.

When this is done, take your yarn needle, and sew together the open ends. Attach some buttons as well if you would like. And that’s it!
