What you will need:
- Soy wax
- Color blocks
- Cotton wicks
Work in small batches.
Melt the wax in your double boiler, until the wax reaches 169 degrees F.
While the wax is melting, cut 5 inch lengths of your cotton wicks. Once the wax is melted, dip the end of the wick into the wax, then pull it out once more. Repeat once more, pulling it out quickly.
Continue to dip the end of the candle into the wax, pulling it out and letting the excess run off. When you have a candle that is roughly as thick as a birthday candle set aside.
Repeat the process for as many candles as you need, remembering to change colors between batches of wax. Allow the candles to set up for 24 hours, then cut the end of the wick down to the proper size.
Use a sharp crafting knife to cut the base of the candles flat and to the same size, and your homemade birthday candles are ready to go for your child’s next party!
For a twist, use a toothpick and white wax to add polka dots and stripes to your candles, giving them more of a personal touch.
